ACE-031 is an experimental muscle-building biologic drug that was developed to increase muscle mass and strength by blocking a protein called myostatin.
What ACE-031 does
- It mimics the extracellular portion of the ActRIIB receptor
- It circulates in the bloodstream
- It binds to Myostatin and Activins
By binding to them, ACE-031 prevents these proteins from activating real muscle cell receptors. Resulting in the “brake” on muscle growth is reduced → muscle cells grow larger → lean muscle mass increases.
How it works
- Myostatin is a protein that limits muscle growth
- ACE-031 acts as a decoy receptor, binding to myostatin (and related proteins like activins) so they can’t signal the body to suppress muscle growth
- The result: increased muscle mass
